“From a skills point of view, I was relatively up-to-date with how fast technology changes, but the course helped me focus on the core skills and tech that I needed to fit into a company like IBM Design, which designs enterprise software on a global scale.” - Patrick Joseph Whelahan, Digital Skills Academy Participant

Frequently Asked Questions

How much existing knowledge of data visualisation do I require?

We assume that participants have no prior knowledge of either design or data visualisation. The course is ideal as a practical introduction but also includes tips and insights to someone who wants to build on their existing experience.

Do I need any specialist software?

Participants will be provided with licences for Tableau and InVision for the duration of the course, powerful data visualisation applications that will enable them to create insightful and impressive visualisations without coding.

How technical does it get?

Although no prior knowledge is assumed, the technical content increases towards the end of the course, when we tackle D3.js. The purpose here is to allow participants to get acquainted with a widely popular library. Through those units we will explain front-end web development concepts on the assumption that participants have no prior knowledge in this field.
