Course Introduction

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to identify and understand the core components and architecture of a web-based application. It introduces you to a range of server-side web technologies and languages used in the creation of intuitive web-based applications. You will use the PHP language and Code Igniter framework to design and develop a dynamic web-based application. By developing a complete client / server application, you will be able to identify and explain the inner workings of a modern web application and adapt it to a client interface.

Through Digital Skills Academy’s experiential learning approach, you’ll also have an opportunity to apply and embed your new skills whilst on the course.

As part of our application process, you will also take a simple, online suitability assessment for your chosen course. Based on your answers, this will confirm that you have the skills and experience required for a successful outcome.

16 hours (comprising a weekly average of 8 taught hours plus 8 additional hours on average for self-study, research and group work)

You will be given course-specific assignments that both reinforce the learning and give you work-based experience of applying your new skills. All assignments are subject to a rigorous assessment framework. Assessments for this specific course include weekly quizzes and the production of a server-side web application or web service.

Can I use WAMP, MAMP, etc.?

While we recommend the XAMPP bundle to run your LAMP stack, any way that you have to run Apache, PHP and MySQL will suffice.
