Course Introduction

Web & Device Programming refers to the languages used by developers to control and communicate with different devices when implementing new software or applications. Taught by an industry expert lecturer, the course addresses Object-Oriented Programming principles, data structures, interpretation techniques, and programme design using the PHP language.

Participants will learn how to write and implement object-orientated PHP programmes, develop effective websites with HTML5, CSS or JavaScript while working with LAMP stack, and strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • As part of our application process, participants will take a simple, online suitability assessment for their chosen course. Based on their answers, this will confirm that participants have the skills and experience required for a successful outcome.

Optional Requirements

  • Experience of at least one modern programming language

8 hours (comprising a weekly average of 4 taught hours plus 4 additional hours on average for self-study, research and group work)

Participants will be given a number of course-specific assignments that both reinforce the learning and provide work-based experience of applying new skills. All assignments are subject to a rigorous assessment framework. For this course specifically participants will have to complete weekly quizzes and work on the following assignments:

  • Assignment 1: A PHP Web App
  • Assignment 2: A HTML site build

This course is taught from first principles so prior knowledge is not needed.  A logical mind-set and passion for coding are all that is required.

Can I use WAMP, MAMP, etc.?

While we recommend the XAMPP bundle to run your LAMP stack, any way that you have to run Apache, PHP and MySQL will suffice.
